Key takeaways

  • It is a slice of Totenreich reused as a Survival map, not a new location.
  • There is no Main Quest — the round counter is the only objective.
  • Rewards land at rounds 10, 25 and 50, which is the range the mode is built around.

Eidskallen Lighthouse is the Survival map Season 05 added to Zombies, and the thing to know before you queue is that it is not a new place. It is a fenced-off slice of Totenreich, the round-based map, turned into a survive-as-long-as-you-can playlist. That single fact — a large map's geometry compressed into a small Survival footprint — decides how it plays.

What Treyarch's notes actually say#

The confirmed part is short. The Season 05 notes list a new Zombies Survival map, Eidskallen Lighthouse, and describe it as placing the crew on Beacon Island and its Lighthouse, on a confined section of the Totenreich round-based map. The reward milestones are the "Valhallan" animated emblem and 1,000 XP for reaching round 10, the "Eidskallen's Light" weapon charm and 2,500 XP for round 25, and the "Gift Card" GobbleGum with 5,000 XP for round 50.

That is the whole specification. Everything below it is analysis, not something Treyarch stated.

Survival means the map is the entire problem#

Survival strips out the Main Quest. There is no step to find, no wonder-weapon build to assemble, no ending. The round counter is the only objective, which changes what you are actually being tested on. On a full round-based map, a lot of what keeps you alive is the freedom to relocate — a bad round is something you walk away from. Survival keeps you in one bounded area and asks whether you can hold it as the horde scales.

That is why the "confined section" wording matters more than it looks. A smaller footprint is not a smaller version of the same challenge. It is a different one.

A small footprint changes how you loop#

High-round survival is a movement problem before it is a shooting one. You keep the horde gathered into a single trailing mass and thin it from the front, rather than getting surrounded. That technique needs room — a loop long enough that the tail of the crowd is still catching up while you deal with the head.

Compress the space and the loop shortens. On a confined footprint you have fewer escape routes, tighter corners, and less margin when a loop collapses. The skill the map rewards is reading a small area precisely: which door funnels the crowd, where a loop pinches, which corner ends a run if you are caught in it. If you have practised training on the open version of Totenreich, expect the same principle on a shorter leash, where mistakes arrive faster.

The milestones tell you the range it targets#

Read the reward rounds as a difficulty statement. Milestones at 10, 25 and 50 say the mode expects a competent crew to clear the twenties and treats round 50 as the ceiling worth paying out for. That is a useful yardstick. If your survival runs reliably stall in the low twenties, this is a contained place to push the gap to 25 and then 50 without a quest pulling your attention off the one thing that is failing.

None of the milestones repeat, so there is no per-run incentive to grind the same rounds — the payout is a one-time set for getting further than before.

One fix worth knowing about#

The Season 05 notes record a bug on this map, released 7/24, where loading a save could cause most of the map to be treated as out of bounds. If you tried Eidskallen Lighthouse at launch, hit that, and shelved it, that is the reason — and it has been addressed. It is stable to come back to.

Who it is for#

Queue Eidskallen Lighthouse if the part of Zombies you want to sharpen is pure round survival on a tight footprint, without a quest to manage. It is a training ground for holding a small area under pressure and a clean way to chase the round 50 milestone. It is not a substitute for the full Totenreich map or for any Main Quest run — it deliberately removes the quest so the survival stands on its own.
