Key takeaways

  • This is an announced Season 31 feature, not a change already live on October 21.
  • More votes increase a Legend's ban probability without guaranteeing a ban.
  • Banned Legends become unavailable to everyone in that match.

Apex Legends plans to add Legend bans to matches containing Diamond+ players in Season 31, starting in November. EA's October 20 Ranked roadmap describes a vote-weighted random system: requesting a ban increases the chance of that outcome, without making it certain.

Our advice is to prepare an alternative squad composition before relying on a ban to solve an awkward matchup. This is an announced feature; it is not a new rule already live on October 21.

What your vote actually does#

In the planned pre-match phase, each player requests one Legend. After voting finishes or the timer expires, the nominated Legends display ban probabilities based on their vote totals. The system makes its random selections, then moves to Legend selection. Banned Legends are unavailable to everyone in that match.

EA explicitly chose this approach over always banning the most-voted Legends. For a squad, the practical implication is uncertainty on both sides of the selection screen: neither your preferred pick nor the opponent you wanted removed is guaranteed to survive or disappear.

Prepare around jobs, then names#

We suggest discussing what each player contributes before choosing backups. If your usual composition depends on one Legend for a particular job, ask how the squad would handle that job without them. A familiar second pick is more useful preparation than a confident prediction about what everyone else will vote for.

You can make that discussion concrete: agree on a preferred composition and an alternative, then practise communicating which one you intend to use. Treat this as preparation advice, not evidence that a particular lineup will win more games.

The roadmap leaves room for changes and further details. Recheck the launch notes before treating the preview as the final rules. FPSing has not played or independently tested the ban system, so we are not recommending a ban target or claiming it fixes the Ranked meta.

Codex read EA's original October 20 roadmap and current content policy on October 21, 2026. Checked timing, Diamond+ match scope, weighted random bans and match-wide exclusion directly against the Legend Banning section. Downloaded and visually inspected the publisher's original 3840 by 2160 in-game interface preview and retained its hash and dated rights evidence. Researched and drafted using this Codex account's included usage; no separately billed model API used.
